Step by Step:

The right way to do your makeup is however you love it!

But, if you feel like your makeup is making you look tired/droopy/older than you are… try this and see if you like it better. It really makes a big difference! 🫣

You don’t have to do ALL of them to see a big difference — but I put all my favorite tips into one video. Pick and choose what you like!

Brows/Base Makeup:

AVOID:

Heavy matte foundation and thick, rounded brows. Using too much foundation will draw attention to fine lines and wrinkles. Most matte foundations can also emphasize wrinkles and patches of dryness… especially under the eyes.

Rounding the brow draws the tail further downward, which pulls down the eye.

TRY INSTEAD:

Lightweight foundation that moves with your skin — and use only what you need. Use just enough foundation to cover areas of redness/uneven skintone. A lighter application is always more forgiving with maturing skin!

I love Seint’s Cream Makeup for all ages. I’ve been an artist since 2020 and can shade match you if you need help. Here’s my shade match form.

For those who really love matte foundation, try Maybelline’s Lumi Matte — it’s a great compromise and still looks beautiful on skin with texture. Use only what you need. ;)

TIP FOR NATURAL LOOKING BROWS: Do your brows BEFORE your makeup. Foundation first can make your brow product gummy and you have to use more to get it to show up. We want to use as little brow product as possible. Doing your brows first, on clean skin, gives the most natural end result.

Use a fine-tipped brow pencil — I use BDB Shade Taupe — and make little hairstrokes (tiny flicking motions) only where you are lacking brow hairs rather than pulling it through the entire brow. Use as little as possible on the tail of the brow to keep the look soft.

BROW TIP: To lift the brow, add a couple of extra “hairstrokes” at the top of the arch.

Comb the product through the brow to add fullness without adding more product. This also keeps them soft-looking!

Eyeshadow:

AVOID:

Dark shadows on the lid. Blending them downward at the corner brings the eye down.

TRY INSTEAD:

Lighter shades, especially in the crease. Blend the upward and outward toward the temple (this lifts the corners of the eyes).

I used Seint eyeshadow in Pup in the crease, and a mix of Lullaby and London on the lid. (These are all matte shadows. I’ll add shimmer later.)

TIP FOR HOODED EYES: Blend your shadows up higher than you think you should. They should be blended high enough that you can see them peeking out above your lashes when you are looking straight ahead.

Eyeliner:

AVOID:

THICK, black eyeliner on top and bottom. Instantly makes the eyes look tired and more droopy.

TRY INSTEAD:

Swap black for a deep chocolate brown. Keep the liner thin and close to the lashline on the upper lid. I like liquid, but you can use whatever you prefer.

If you like a wing — it’s perfect for a lift. If you don’t love it, skip it… the look is still pretty without it!

Use a shadow under the bottom lashes instead of eyeliner. It will still give you shape, but keeps the eye open. I used Lullaby.

Shimmer:

AVOID:

Thick shimmer under the brow. It usually brings the eye down and makes it look more hooded, as you can see in my photo!

TRY INSTEAD:

Keep your shimmer on the lid — I used Venus — and tap it on with your finger.

To highlight under the brow, use a matte ivory pencil. I like BDB’s Brow Duo Pencil for this! Swipe it on, then gently tap it out with your finger. You can even use this to brighten the inner corners of your eyes.

Lashes:

AVOID:

If you have straight lashes or hooded eyes (or both), avoid heavy mascaras. They just weigh the lashes down even more.

TRY INSTEAD:

Warm your lash curler first for a few seconds with a blow dryer. This will help lock in a curl! Use a lightweight mascara and thin coats. I used Tartelette Tubing Mascara.

TIP FOR FINDING A MASCARA YOU LOVE: Volumizing mascaras are often thicker and heavier. Lengthening mascaras and tubing mascaras are usually more lightweight. Waterproof formulas usually hold a curl really well. But, if they feel harsh on your lashes, apply it on top of your favorite mascara as your last coat.

Cheeks:

AVOID:

Contour that is too cool for your skin tone — and applying too much. It can look muddy.

Avoid blending your blush too close to the undereye. If you have any eye hollowing, keep blush outside the hollow, otherwise it will draw attention to darkness here.

TRY INSTEAD:

Warm up with a cream bronzer to wake up the face! You can use use contour with bronzer — just tuck it under the cheekbones.

My favorite cream bronzer is Bella Bronzer.

You can still blend your blush high, just keep it out of the eye hollow. See how much of a difference it makes in the undereye area?!

Brightening/Concealer:

AVOID:

Going too light under the eyes. It only draws more attention to what you are trying to cover and accentuates any fine lines.

TRY INSTEAD:

Just one shade lighter than your base shade. And apply it with a soft, fluffy brush to keep it sheer.

If you love extra brightness, try this pink brightening concealer! Just a tiny dot on the eye hollow line does the trick.

Lips:

AVOID:

Lining all the way to the corners of the mouth. It brings the corners down (almost into a frown) and accentuates lines.

TRY INSTEAD:

Focus overlining just the middle of the bottom and top lip.

TIP FOR THINNER LIPS: Go over that lip liner with a cool-toned liner for a contoured effect. To make it look most natural, blend it out with a small brush. Apply gloss and done!

More Tips To Try:

POWDERS:

Powders are not forbidden! :) I love this pink brightening powder under the eyes. To keep the skin radiant and not accentuate lines, only use powder where you need it. For me, this is the center of the face. Keep the cheekbones glowy.

HIGHLIGHT:

Use a dewy highlight on the tops of the cheekbones to add radiance. Powder everywhere else you need it.

HIGHLIGHT:

To lift the corners of the eyes, try that highlighting brow pencil under your winged liner to add a little light and lift!

Makeup should always be fun!
